How
often do you read books? Do you read books for pleasure or is it a chore?
Do you read to obtain facts and figures or do you read books for a higher
purpose? Whatever your reasons for reading books you'll probably agree
that books are an important and necessary part of your life.
books have existed throughout modern history. Just as writing
has a style of its own, so books can be viewed in the same way. books
written by different people differ at different times, in different places
and in different situations. books can be read quickly, especially where
work is concerned. books can be read slowly, savoring every word. books
can be for pleasure or books can be for work. books are different things
to different people. And, books could be so much more useful to you.
Books for pleasure are one of the greatest gifts given to
man. books can expand your horizons. books can lead you into worlds you
couldn't get to without the printed word. books can teach and invigorate
you and books can challenge you. Without books your brain would be in
danger of stagnating. Certainly the development of your brain would be
restricted without books. Think of all the things you have learned through
books not because you were told to, but because you wanted to.
But, putting aside books for pleasure, we must also look
at books as tools for advancement. Understanding books at work, in the
office and at home are growing as a demand of the job. It may be a manual,
or a policy document. It might be electronic books as well as paper, but
the demand for your books is growing. books for work are usually something
you'd like to read more quickly. A lucky few take pleasure from books
they use in their work. As a result, the demand for reading books faster
is increasing. There are a number of ways that you can improve the speed
of your reading. Speed reading is a skill that you can develop. Many say
that they'd rather read more slowly and fully understand a book. Certainly
books are about understanding. BUT, the key to speed reading books is
to READ FASTER AND UNDERSTAND.
Reading Genius by Ed Strachar has been proven to increase
the speed of your reading whether of books, notes or magazines and not
just by a few words a minute. You can increase your reading speed from
anywhere from 6-10 PAGES a minute, and still retain recognition and understanding.
Amazing? According to Ed Strachar not so. He states along with many others
that 95% of our brains are under-utilized, and that the key to reading
books faster is unlocking that potential.
Reading books faster may not be something that seems
initially desirable, but when you consider how many of your books are
work related, it may be necessary!
